Brandon Roberts: A Chat with the Sky

Brandon Roberts laced up his rugby boots, his heart pounding with excitement. Today was his first big game.

Brandon prepares for rugby, feels nervous and excited.

As he ran onto the field, he heard cheers. But inside, Brandon was full of doubts.

Brandon enters the field, crowd cheering, he's unsure.

Suddenly, the game began to change. Brandon had the ball, and the goal was ahead. Run, Brandon, run!

Game is intense, Brandon dashes with the ball.

With opponents closing in, Brandon felt a rush. He whispered, 'Can I do it?' as he neared the goal.

Brandon faces opponents, questions himself.

He looked up briefly and thought he saw the clouds forming a face, a calming presence in the sky.

Brandon notices a face in the clouds, feels calm.

'You've got this,' a gentle voice seemed to say. It was strange, but Brandon felt less alone.

Brandon hears a reassuring voice, gains confidence.

He dodged a tackle, then another. The voice returned, 'Focus on the present moment, Brandon.'

Brandon evades tackles, hears the guiding voice again.

With a final burst of energy, Brandon scored! His team erupted in cheers, and he beamed with pride.

Brandon scores, team cheers, he's proud.

After the game, Brandon sat alone, staring at the sky, wondering about that voice. Was it real?

Post-game, Brandon ponders the voice from the sky.

"Maybe it's not important if it was real," Brandon thought. "It helped me when I needed it."

Brandon reflects on the voice's impact, not its reality.

The next game came, and though the sky was silent, Brandon felt that same confidence. He was not alone.

Next game, sky silent, Brandon confident, feels supported.

From then on, whether he heard the voice or not, Brandon Roberts played each game with heart and soul.

Brandon continues to play with passion, voice or no voice.

Reflection Questions

  • How do you think Brandon felt when he first heard the voice? Why?
  • Have you ever felt reassured by something during a difficult time? What was it, and how did it help you?
  • Why is it important for Brandon to reflect on the voice's impact, rather than whether it was real?
