Hippo was happy as can be, walking with an elephant, his friend so free.
A horse trotted by with a scowl and a snort, 'Hugo, you’re clumsy!' he did report. Hugo’s smile did falter, his spirits did sway. Why would Horse make him feel this way?
Ellie noticed and gave a gentle nudge. 'Don't fret, dear Hugo, do not hold a grudge.' They resumed their walk, brighter now anew, but trouble, it seemed, was not quite through.
A monkey swung down from the tall, tall trees. 'Hugo, you’re silly!' said Monkey with ease. Hugo’s heart sank, his joy gone astray. He tried to be happy, but not today.
Then there came a fox with a bushy red tail. 'Hugo, you’re slow, like a big, old snail!' Hugo felt gloomy, his tears about to show. Why did the animals treat him so?
Ellie pulled her friend close, love in her eyes. ‘Hugo, my friend, don't listen to lies. You have a big heart, you’re gentle and kind, don’t let their words trouble your mind.’
Hugo felt warmth spreading through his chest, like sunlight breaking through clouds, he felt blessed. Their walk continued, with each step light, basking in thoughts that felt so right.
Refrain did follow, 'You’re clumsy, you’re slow!' These words once brought Hugo such sorrow. But with Ellie by his comforting side, Hugo now walked with greater pride.
They met again the horse, the monkey, the fox. But Hugo’s heart was stronger, his fears unboxed. He smiled at them bright, wearing courage like a hat. ‘Words won’t hurt me. I know where my worth is at!’
Ellie trumpeted loud and proud, 'Hooray! For Hugo and his courage on this sunny day!' And all the animals learned in a single beat, that friendship and love cannot be beat.
So Hugo and Ellie went off on their way, wrapped in their friendship, come what may. They danced in the meadows, they splashed in streams, living life happily with dreams and sunbeams.
So remember, dear child, when words come with gloom, let your heart shine and chase away the doom. With friends by your side, and love as your guide, there’s no place for sadness, only joy and pride.
