Kaewta and the Fallen Bird

Kaewta was walking through the lush forrest near her home when she heard a faint chirping sound. She peered around the big tree and spotted a baby bird on the ground, seeming disoriented. The little creature had fallen from its nest which was perched high up in the tree.

Kaewta finds the baby bird under a big tree in the forest.

Feeling a wave of compassion for the tiny bird, Kaewta gently scooped him up into her hands. She could feel his heartbeat, rapid and frail. Deciding that he needed shelter and care, she swiftly made her way back home, cradling the bird to keep him warm.

Kaewta picks up the baby bird and decides to take him home.

At home, Kaewta improvised a makeshift bed for the bird using a small box lined with soft cloths. She then set out to find some food and water for him. Kaewta knew that taking care of this bird was a huge responsibiliy, but she was determined to do her best.

Kaewta prepares a bed for the bird and looks for food and water.

She went to the kitchen and found some bread crumbs and seeds. Remembering that birds also need protein, she added a smashed boiled egg to the mix. The bird pecked at the food gratefully, and Kaewta felt a wave of satisfaction knowing that he was at least not hungry anymore.

Kaewta feeds the bird with bread crumbs, seeds, and boiled egg.

As days passed, the bird, whom Kaewta named Chirpy, began to regain his strength. His feathers grew fuller, and his chirps became louder. Kaewta had taken to reading books about bird care, understanding more about their needs and behaviors. She found herself becoming quite attached to Chirpy.

Chirpy gets stronger, and Kaewta reads about bird care.

One day, while Kaewta was in school, her mother noticed Chirpy trying to stretch his wings. She hesitated, unsure if the bird was ready to fly. When Kaewta returned, her mother shared her observations. Kaewta knew the time would eventually come to set Chirpy free, but she felt a pang of sadness thinking about it.

Kaewta's mother sees Chirpy trying to stretch his wings; they discuss his readiness.

Kaewta and her mother decided it was best to let Chirpy test his wings in their garden. They carefully took Chirpy outside, placing him on a low branch of a tree. Chirpy hopped around, uncertain at first, but then he flapped his wings more confidently.

They decide to let Chirpy test his wings in the garden.

Kaewta held her breath as Chirpy fluttered from one branch to another. Each successful hop filled her with joy but also with a growing sense of imminent farewell. 'You can do it, Chirpy,' she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion as she watched his every move.

Kaewta watches Chirpy flutter from branch to branch.

After a week of practice flights, Chirpy seemed ready for the wider world. Kaewta knew it was time. She and her mother went to the big tree in the forest, the one where Kaewta had found Chirpy. Placing him gently on a high branch, Kaewta stepped back. Tears welled up in her eyes.

Chirpy is ready for the wider world; they go back to the big tree.

Chirpy looked at her one last time before spreading his wings. With a determined chirp, he took off, soaring higher and higher. Kaewta and her mother watched until he was just a speck in the sky. 'Goodbye, Chirpy,' Kaewta whispered. She knew they had done the right thing, but it didn't make saying goodbye any easier.

Chirpy flies away, and Kaewta says goodbye with mixed emotions.

The days that followed felt emptier without the constant chirping and fluttering of wings. Yet, Kaewta found solace in the thought that Chirpy was free and happy in his natural habitat. She had given him a second chance, and that was all that mattered.

Kaewta misses Chirpy but finds solace in his freedom.

Kaewta continued to visit the forest, always looking up at the trees, hoping to catch a glimpse of Chirpy. Though she never saw him again, she heard chirps that were just a bit louder, and she liked to believe that Chirpy was singing a thank-you song, high up in the branches.
