Max found a map in his backyard. It was old and torn, its edges curled.
The map had a path drawn on it with a big, red 'X'. 'Treasure!' Max gasped.
He showed the map to his best friend, Lily. 'Let's find it!' she exclaimed.
In the woods, they followed the map. Birds chirped and leaves rustled underfoot.
They stumbled upon a stream. 'It's not on the map,' Max frowned. 'Now what?'
Lily spotted stepping stones. 'We can cross here,' she said, leading the way.
Past the stream, they found a clearing. 'The 'X' should be here somewhere,' Max thought aloud.
They searched and found a hollow in the tree. Inside was a box.
Max opened the box. Inside were shiny stones and old coins.
Lily hugged Max. 'We found it because we worked together!' she said happily.
They decided to take the treasure home and put it somewhere safe.
Max realized the treasure was less important than the adventure with a friend.
